The Clinical Observation on the Volume of Blood Transfused for Open Heart Surgery

Abstract
The transfusion study was carried out on 300 patients who received Open heart Surgery from Jan. 4 1985 to Sep. 12 1985 at Se-Jong General Hospital.
1. The results obtained were as follows:
Among the patients who received 01-IS, The number of the noncyanotic heart disease under 7 years old age was 88 (29.3%), most common. The number of the adult cyanotic congenital heart disease was 19 (6.3%), least common.
2. Among the ABO blood type, The number of 0 typed patients was 95 (31.7%), A type 91 (30.3%), B type 85 (28.3%) and AB type 29 (9.7%) respectively in order.
3. Average anesthetic time and by-pass time of cynotic group were longer than noncyanotic group.
4. Average amount of transfused blood revealed high in group VI (adult cynotic congenital heart disease) which recorded 15.7 pints, group VII (Acquired adult heart disease) 12.7 pints in order. The group I (noncyanotic congenital heart disease under 7 years old age) needed least amount of blood (4.8 pints). Generaly average transfused volume of cynotic group were more than noncynotic group in number.
5. Average amount of transfused blood for a Open Heart Surgery was 4.9 pints at OR and 4.4 pints at ICU. Total was 9.3 pints for a patient.
